Spanish Style Roofing

Many of those beautiful Spanish style roofs that you see are really made of concrete roof tiles. They are designed to be durable but also withstand many natural forces such as snow, rain, sleet and severe heat as well. They are a clay tile roofing composite that is designed to look like terra cotta, the original material used to create these beautiful roofing structures. Eagle Roofing has some very nice concrete roofs that are sure to increase the resale value of your house and provide your house with lasting protection.

There are a couple of things that you should know before you decide to get tile roofing. The first is that they have to be replaced or repaired when they break. Also Cleaning your tile roof is a little more complex than just going up there with a pressure washer and spraying everything off your concrete roof tiles. The pressure from the water could actually break or chip your tiles. There are contractors that you can have come to your house to repair and clean your concrete roofing tiles, but it's so easy that you could do it in a much more affordable way by yourself.

Repairing your concrete roof tiles is simple. All you need is the replacement tile, and a crow bar or other devise that will allow you to pry up the tile. First, lift up the upper right tile above the broken one, then the tile that is left of the broken tile. That ensures that nothing is resting on your tile so that you can pull it out. Slide in your new tile and release first the left tile then the top right one. Now your tile is replaced!

Cleaning your roof is fairly simple. There is a simple soap solution called Roof Raider which is designed to clean up mildew, mold and moss from your concrete roof tiles, and also kill bugs. Be careful not to walk on the roof after it has been laid down because it is very slippery and it is a great hazard for you to walk on it. Spray the roof with the Roof Raider and let it sit for ten minutes. Spray it from the gutter up to the peak so that you can stand on the other side of the roof when you reach the highest point. Using a regular hose, rinse off the product and start the next section. It is best to do it in smaller areas so that nobody ends up getting hurt from slipping and falling.

But don't concrete tiles crack in extreme weather? I only ask because our concrete on our porch and sidewalk did crack after a series of ice storms. The extreme temperatures caused it to split, and water seeped in and made it worse. Maybe it's not the same kind of concrete, but I wouldn't want to take a chance on that happening to my roof.

Concrete tiles cost less than clay tiles, but they lose their color over a period of years. Clay tiles won't lose their color. Of course, the tiles look nice as they fade, but if you buy a certain color, you want to keep that color.

I don't know if it's true that these tiles repel weather all that well. I just read that they leak like crazy, because there's so much space between tiles and it's hard to get them water tight. That sounds like more trouble than a pretty roof is worth.

I was doing some research and I found that you can send away for samples of these tiles. That would be really helpful to me, since I have a hard time imagining things just from a description. They look so pretty, especially when all the houses in a neighborhood have their roofs like this.

Yeah, but if you can afford to replace them, they'd be worth it. While they're on, they repel weather better than almost anything. Nothing's perfect, any choice you make is going to have its downside.

These tiles look nice but they seem so fragile! They could break so easily. That doens't seem like a very good investment, if you have to replace pieces of your roof every time there's a storm or something. We get lots of tornadoes and ice storms where I live, so that just wouldn't work.

Actually, the old-style Spanish houses used tiles made of terra-cotta, but the newer concrete ones weather a lot better. You can't really tell the difference to look at them, though. That's one of the great things about that Spanish style.

Hard Kennel Roofing is a Great Improvement For Dog Kennels

By D. Goossens
Many dog kennel manufacturers and retailers have been offering kennel covers for blocking the sun and keeping Fido more comfortable when in the dog kennel. These covers work fine as long as the weather does not turn bad with wind and heavy rain or snow. Most kennel covers are a fabric material, in reality, a tarp attached to the kennel top with a series of metal poles which you drape the cover over the kennel and secure the tarp with shock cords or bungee cords.
